Garage and Concrete Floor Coating: Your Questions Answered
Request an estimate
Answers to common questions
What happens after I request an estimate?
Your request goes to an independent provider in our network that handles your type of floor. The provider reviews your details and reaches out to talk through the slab, the finish you want and a time to look at it. You get a written quote. You are not obligated to accept it.
How long does an epoxy garage floor take to install?
Most garage jobs run two to four days. The provider grinds the slab, fills cracks, applies the coats and lets each layer cure. Humid summer weather and cold snaps can stretch that. Ask the provider for a schedule in writing. Then plan to keep cars and heavy items off the floor until they say it is ready.
Can I coat my garage floor myself?
You can, but results often differ from professional work. Store-bought kits usually skip the heavy grinding that helps a coating bond. Moisture in the slab can also make it peel. If your floor is cracked, oily or damp, a local provider can test it and advise before you spend money on materials.
What is polyaspartic coating, and how is it different from epoxy?
Polyaspartic is a fast-curing coating, often used as a topcoat. It resists UV light and yellowing better than most epoxy. Epoxy is a hard, thick base layer. Many providers combine the two. A provider in our network can explain which setup fits your slab and budget.
How much does floor coating cost?
Typical U.S. prices run from about $3 to $12 per square foot, depending on the coating, slab condition and prep work. Cracks, old sealers and stains add labor. Prices vary by job, so get a written quote that lists materials, prep and the number of coats.
Is it safe to be home during the work?
Coatings give off strong fumes while they go on, so providers use ventilation and masks. Keep kids and pets out of the garage until the provider says it is safe. If the garage connects to living space, tell the provider so they can plan airflow and door sealing.
Do you also handle hardwood flooring installation?
We are a referral service, not a installer. Many providers in our network focus on concrete. Some may also cover other flooring. Mention it in your request, and a provider can tell you if they offer it.
How do I keep a coated floor looking good?
Sweep or dust mop weekly and wipe spills soon after they happen. Use a mild, pH-neutral cleaner and a soft mop. Avoid harsh acids and metal scrapers. In winter, rinse road salt off the floor so it does not dull the finish. Use mats under hot tires and heavy gear. Ask your provider for a care sheet, and check the floor each season for chips or lifting edges so small issues get fixed early. Coat it, then care.
